An altitude of 7000 feet and dollar drafts makes for a long day.

The donger need sleep.  But the alures of Karaoke at the Canyon Club might just be too much to resit!!

Another great day of photography, peddlin', (well not much peddlin') and finding different treasures that the Mother Road offers!!

I left Flagstaff about 10:00.  A great fun college town.  First stop was to find the Pine Breeze Inn,

the famous location from the movie Easy Rider where Peter and the boys were snubbed by the NO VACANCY sign.  I also happened to find the sign

at the Route 66 Roadhouse in the Bellemont.  Very interesting place....Check out this juke box!!  And it's ok to rock it!!
Was hoping to make Kingman AZ today.  Maybe next time!!  Williams has too many shops and too much to photograph, so I decided to spend the night.  Williams is the closet town to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, so many hotels and a couple Motels abound.  I am staying at the Grand Canyon Motel.  Oldest Motel in AZ, built in 1891.

I think my bed might be from 1891!!

Enjoy the pictures from the day.  I'm going to do my best to make it to LA tomorrow!!
Where is Mr. Plow when you need him?

Maurice's Hotel in Parks.  I just love the colors!!  And yes, that is snow!!

Ok, made it to Williams.......

Adios!!!

It's a Good Friday

The briefest blog ever!!

Peddlin' on the corner, Two Guns, Twin Arrows, and more snow

Hello again from handcolored66!!  Wow an incredible day.  Only traversed 90 miles in 7 hours, yet had one awesome day!!  As I said before, the longer this journey takes, the better it will be!!

Left the motel, which soon will be discussed in detail as the snake of a manager tried to rip me off.........First stop of the day was to do a little peddlin'.  Stopped into Romo's Cafe.....This is located right on good old 66.  Last night, a local told me it was the best Mexican food in town!!  I had snapped a few images of the joint, and wanted to check it out!!  I met Phylis, the owner, and while we discussed my cards and food, (yes, they do have chorizo...always a must for any Mexican place), she offered to make me a Chili Relleno!!  I first passed, but being the gracious person I am, gladly accepted her offer......All the food is fresh, and actually prepared on site.  Seems like a big deal, yes?  It is to me as so many places are merely "warming" commercially prepared stuff.

Take a look for yourself.....Excellente!!!  Muy Bien!!!

This is the place to eat in Holbrook.  Many people go to the place across the street.  Try Romo's..You won'tregret it!!Continued to shoot a few more pics, and this is the exterior of the "World Famous Winners Circle Bar".

Everyone's heard about it, right?  Stopped in for some peddlin'.  The owner did not want to speak as he allegedly lost $19,000 earlier in the morning.  I understand that he wasn't in the mood to view some seriouslyfine art cards.  Maybe next time!!  Headed West on Hopi Drive to the Wigwam, and left some info for the owners.

 Next stop, Joseph City.....

And now, not confirmed but highly touted, the most photographed corner in the U.S.A.

I think she was slowing down to take a look at me.  Smart lady!!!

And a peddlin' I was.  Just across the street, the appropriately named "Standin' on the Corner" Gift shop is the proud newest retailer of handcolored66 art cards.  Look for yourself!!!

Not only did she buy out my entire stock, she placed an order for 30,000 cards!!!  I'm in love!!  Winslow is the best place ever!!  Pictured above is Emma, the Standin' on the Corner register lady!!  Some other big news from Winslow, and this is the first I was aware.....Major construction!  The city is busily construcginb a new intersection, and a huge 66 shield is the highlight!!   Completion date is just 8 days away!!

As I had only traveled about 30 miles in four hours, it was time to get movin!!  First stop, the infamous Two Guns......I could tell you about some of it's history, but again, you can research yourself.  Or, just let my pictures do the talking.

Pictured above, an old zoo of some sort.  On the right, Diablo Canyon.  (I'm scared)!!!!

Off to Twin Arrows......

.
It was snowing again a tad as I captured the arrows and another former Valentine Cafe.   Almost to Flagstaff, the view form the car at 75mph......

That's all for now!!  Flagstaff is a college town.  I think I'm going out for .25 draws!!

Gordo

Snowing in Holbrook, AZ.

Wow, what a difference a day or two makes.  85 degrees in Alby, and now about 36 with light snow in Holbrook AZ.

My goal was to make it to Arizona, and it was accomplished.  Enjoy the pictures.....

Heading West........The famous "Owl Rock"

Yet another one of the "Dead Man Curve's" on Route 66

A very kind place!!!!

Crazy Mary outside her Route 66 Art Gallery in San Fidel.   Perhaps Cuba, Missouri will soon have a similar proprietor gallery and similiar proprietor.

Arrived in Grants, New Mexico, and while photographing "Pat's Lounge",

I learned some interesting facts.  This guy came out from the music store,

and asked me if I knew who owned the store.  Of course, I had no clue.  Surprisingly, it is a the Daughter of "Lucille", of the famed station in Hydro!!  Wild wacky stuff!!  Her name is Delpha Dean Martin,

and she has been running the music shop for many, many years.  Quite a nice selection of guitars, sticks, and much much more...If you are looking for instruments in Grants, and like to smoke, this is the store!!

Shuttered Uranium Cafe......It still glows!!

I've always wondered, "What the hell is a brazier"????

Wacky shenanigans outside the very nice trading post in Milan.  And they locals pronounce it correctly, like the Italian City.  Unlike the town in Northwest Missouri, where it is called "My-lan".

For a few short moments, I pondered relieving myself, just to test the accuracy of the sign!!

I soon found myself in Giddy Up Gallup, and made a few images of the way cool El Ranch Motel.

Traveling West, I was quite amused by this......I guess just one of the many kicks you can get on Route 66. I"m having difficulty with the formating of this entry, so forgive the random placement.

I made it to Arizona!!!!  It's real purdy!!

Those that know me are very well aware of my previous washout experience.  This was about 15 miles West of  Tucumcari.  After I rode my motorcyle through a very muddy underpass, I encountered this.

This promoted a crazy chain of events that ultimately ended in me running out of gas in Los Montoyas!!  Another story for another time!!

The last picture of the day, and this washout did not bother me at all.  Not at all!!

As the comic book store guy would say, "The best washout ever"!!!!

I guess I"m letting the pictures do the talking.  Ready for another day and another wonderful experience.  Sure wish I had time to pull some pranks!!  Best April Fool's joke ever!!  Called a neighbor, about 17 years ago, pretending to be from the water department and informed the person that we were experiencing pressure problems....Long story short, had this lady going all over the house turning on all the faucets!!!  Happy April 1st!!

Yesterday, while preparing to hit the road, and thanking Vickie for her hospitality, and not being able to shut up, somehow the Simpson's came into the conversation.  She made me hip to the following.....

The fictional Springfield Isotopes from the long running TV series The Simpsons were the influence for the new name of the team. In the episode "Hungry, Hungry Homer", main character Homer Simpson attempts to thwart the team's plan to move to Albuquerque by going on a hunger strike. Subsequently, when an Albuquerque Tribune online survey helped the team decide its new name, "Isotopes" received 67 percent of the 120,000 votes.

Just one more reason why I love Alby.  They get it!!
